Hi, I'm Rick and welcome to the first episode of helpmewithmywebsite.
The purpose of this site is to help average to technically-challenged people understand, build and make the most of their web sites.
Personally, my specialty is using technology for business development, marketing, sales and project management. I'm also your host and one of the co-owners of Monarch Digital, a web development company. Over the course of these episodes, we'll bring in our experts in hosting, security, programming, design, social networking and more.
If you are an advanced web developer, this is not the place for you. None of our topics are "advanced". However, you web professionals might want to point clients or bosses to this site so they better understand what you do.
The reason we're doing this project is that I found that I was continually giving this elementary web education piecemeal to prospective and new clients. Here, we can do a more concise job of educating our immediate customer base and provide value to many others out on the web. Most importantly, an informed consumer is a better customer, so everyone wins.
Topics will range from internet jargon to search engine optimization. From how much should a web site cost to where should I host my site.
We are producing each episode both in video and audio formats. You can subscribe via iTunes and other mp3 players. You can also receive an email whenever we post a new episode online. We are also in the process of setting up our own YouTube channel.
You probably know someone who could use this information. Please pass this information along.
We are structuring these episodes like a "web university": 3 to 5 minute college classes that can serve as long-term reference material. So, we will have episodes that build upon one another, like Hosting 101, 102, etc.
What else? On this site, you can ask and answer questions in our forums. We will open a forum to discuss each of the episodes that we post. We'll also create forums in general categories you you can ask and answer questions freely. We will monitor these forums carefully so that they are family friendly.
Unlike most of our episodes, this intro is just housekeeping, like the first day of class. Unlike the first day of class, you don't have any homework. Join us for our next episode, Internet Jargon 101.
